Monitor Has Lines but No Physical Damage

Troubleshoot monitor lines when the screen is not cracked, including cable issues, refresh settings, GPU output, panel faults and browser-based checks.

Quick answer

Lines without a visible crack can come from the cable, input port, graphics output, refresh settings, adapter, panel electronics or the panel itself. Check whether the lines appear in the monitor menu, then test another cable, port and source before blaming the panel.

Use the monitor menu as a divider

If the line appears over the monitor on-screen menu, the fault is more likely inside the monitor. If the menu is clean, the cable, adapter, dock, GPU or source settings may be involved.

Check the signal path

Return to native resolution and a supported refresh rate. Try another cable, port and source device where possible, especially if the issue appears only at high bandwidth modes.

Recognize a repeatable hardware symptom

A fixed line that remains in the same place across solid colors, the monitor menu and more than one source is stronger evidence of a monitor hardware issue.

How to verify it

  1. Open the monitor on-screen menu and check whether the line crosses it.
  2. Restore native resolution and a supported refresh rate.
  3. Try another cable, input port and source device.
  4. Document a fixed line that remains across colors and sources, then contact support.
