Why Does My Screen Have Bright Spots?

Find common causes of bright spots on a display, including stuck pixels, pressure marks, dust, backlight issues and panel damage.

Quick answer

A tiny fixed bright point may be a stuck or hot pixel. A larger soft bright patch is more likely related to pressure, an LCD backlight or diffuser layer, panel uniformity, or physical damage. Compare black, gray and solid colors without pressing the screen.

Separate a point from a patch

A single-pixel red, green, blue or white point is easiest to see on dark backgrounds. A broad glow, cloud or irregular bright area involves more than one pixel and should be checked as a uniformity or backlight symptom.

Rule out reflections and pressure

Change room lighting and viewing angle. Reflections move with your position, while a panel issue remains in the same area. Do not massage or press a bright spot because pressure can worsen panel damage.

Decide the next test

Use the stuck pixel test for a tiny colored point. Use black and mid-gray uniformity tests for a larger bright area. Document symptoms that remain visible in everyday content.

How to verify it

  1. Clean the panel and reduce reflections.
  2. Compare black, gray, white and primary colors.
  3. Decide whether the symptom is a single pixel or a larger patch.
  4. Run the matching focused test and document repeatable results.
